No School Saturday: Duponts, Chesters, Imperials = Liittle Anthony

Happy Saturday Ginchers,

Are you ready for a little No School Saturday?  After our grand re-opening of the museum last night and the tours I gave talking with so many knowledgeable people I got to remeninscing about the incredible Saturday Nights I spent working with so many of my music heros.  One in particular jumped out as we looked at his picture ... Little Anthony Gourdine!  Anthony is and will always be one of my favorite lead singers ... you know it is him after hearing the first two or three notes, his register is unbelieveable and his stage presence is impecable.  He tells such great stories of the business and growing up as a singer.  My favorite line that he uses in his show is ... "I'm not Little any more, I'm a grown man!"  Anthony began his career as the lead singer of the Duponts and was brought into a new group called the Chesters in 1957 by Clarence Collins.  As the Chesters Anthony was of coarse the lead singer and they recorded for Apollo records.  In 1958 they changed their name to the Imperials and began recording for End Records releasing their first record as the Imperials, "Tears on my Pillow" with a "B" side that was equally as good, "Two People In The World".  This record earned them their first gold record.  During the mid 1960's and now called Little Anthony and the Imperials they scored  a string of hit records the likes of; "I'm on the Outside Looking In", "Going Out Of My Head", "Hurt So Bad", "I Miss You", "Take Me Back" and so many more.  I/we had the honors of working with Anthony several times and spent a lot of time chatting in dressing rooms and back stage and there is nothing like watching their show from the wings of the stage ... their uniforms are beautiful, their moves on stage timed just right, their harmonies are some of the best I've ever heard and of coarse the master stage delivery of Anthony second to none.  When I think about this great music and the experiences I've had, one particular fact comes to mind ... the Duponts, the Chesters, the Imperials, all have one common denominator ... Little Anthony Gourdine.  Till tomorrow, stay safe, stay healthy, help a neighbor when yu can ... and, GOD Bless!

Johnny
