Posted on May 20, 2020 at 9:35 AM

Mornin' Ginchers,

Welcome to Wa'sup Wednesday and wa'sup with Darth Vader and the Quips?  Before we go there let's talk about one of my all time favorite actors ... James Earl Jones.  His voice is one of the most recognizable on the planet, he won 5 Tony Awards, a Grammy and 2 Primtime Emmy Awards, he was presented the National Medal of the Arts by President George Bush, he recieved the Kennedy Center Honor, he recieved an Honorary Doctor of the Arts degree from Harvard University and a special Tony Award for Lifetime Achievement in the Theatre.  He has appeared in soooo many great movies the likes of; The Great White Hope, Star Wars, Field of Dreams, Coming to America and Lion King to name a few.  So, how did I hook up with this ICON of the Golden Screen?  Well, it goes back to my days working for Bell Telephone, Bell of PA, Bell Atlantic, Verizon (too many name changes).  I did several ads and commercials for the company and was one of the recorded voices you heard when put on hold for service.  My photo was in the airports for the Signature service campaign and I did many training fims for the company.  One year, I was told that the company hired James Earl Jones to be the new voice of the company.  I/we had the opportunity to use Mr. Jones in some local personal appearance campaigns and I was chosen to work with the legend.  At the time, we (Bell Atlantic) was leading the way in teleconferencing and picture phone hook ups.  I came up with a cool idea to use James Earl Jones in a hook up between the United States and England in an educational picture phone, teleconference.  We chose Aliquippa High School and an intercity High School in London.  We (James & I) sat in a class room of students at Aliquippa High and the other end were students form England.  During the question and answer session  Mr. Jones asked the students from England if they had any personal questions for the Film star.  Everyone in the room was prepared for the typical question ... "What was it like being Darth Vader?"  But, to our surprise, the question did not come up.  The main question asked of James Earl Jones from the students in England was ... "Is it true that there is a McDonald's on every street corner in America!"  His laugh echoed through the building!  I can honestly say that my experience with the great James Earl Jones is one that I will never forget.  His voice, his professionalism, his love for people and kids and his God given talent were truly amazing!  So, that's wa'sup with Darth Vader and the Quips!  Till tomorrow stay safe, stay healthy, help a neighbor when you can ... and, God Bless!
