Throw Back Thursday: The Emerald Room!

Posted on March 19, 2020 at 10:25 AM

Throw Back Thursday ... The Emerald Room ... where did the time go?  As I get older I find myself remeniscing more than I ever had.  I am yearning more for the good old days than I probably should ... but life seemed to be so much better years ago.  Let's re-visit the Emerald Room Theatre in McKees Rocks.  Owned by our friend Rick Urbano, his son ran the 3-D Lounge downstairs and we opperated the show ro0m upstairs, known then as the Emerald Room.  We, Johnny Angel and the Halos brought in National Artists that we worked with over the years and featured concerts.  The real stars of the shows were the loyal fans who showed up every concert , forming a sort of Family that we called Halo Heads ... some of the greatest people in the world!  The shows were up close and personal and our fans had opportunities to meet their heroes in person, it was an intimate setting and the audience many times actually became part of the show.  Some of the great acts that appeared with us are: The Tymes, Eddie Holman, Dee Dee Sharp, Len Barry, The Teenagers, The Royal All Stars, The Contours, The Jaggerz, The Vogues, The Skyliners, The Edsels, The Delfonics, The Marcels, Danny & the Jr's, The Pixies Three, Shirly Alston Reeves and the Shirelles, The Cleftones,  and special guests who would just show up and sing a song or two with us like Brother Dan Daley, Bill Dell of the Wee Jams, Eugene Pitt of the Jive Five, Don & Juan ... sorry I just got lost remeniscing again.  The shows were scheduled to be a total of two hours but the average show went three, sometimes three and a half hours.  Every show was like a family re-union and the friendships made still go on to this very day.  The Emerald Room closed after many years of fun and memories and has since been renovated and re-opened as the Roxian Theatre.  We did a show there a few months ago and when I walked in, I immediately flashed back to the old days when the theatre was our home.  Throw Back Thursday ... I think I'm gonna rename it to  ... "Let's go back and stay back!'  Have a Ginchy day and keep the memories and the music alive!
